Common Roots Blower Problems & Proven Troubleshooting Solutions

When an industrial blower encounters abnormal operating parameters, quick diagnosis is essential. Here is a troubleshooting guide for common Roots blower problems.

Problem 1: Blower Overheating (High Discharge Temperature)

Possible Causes: Clogged air suction filter, operating above rated pressure, low gear oil level, or hot ambient air inlet.

Solutions: Clean suction filter, verify pressure gauge rating, top up gear oil, and ensure adequate room ventilation.

Problem 2: Excessive Noise and Pulsation

Possible Causes: Loose V-belts, worn timing gears causing rotor contact, or un-anchored piping.

Solutions: Retension V-belts, inspect timing gear backlash, or upgrade to a Tri Lobe Roots Blower with an Acoustic Enclosure.

Problem 3: Abnormal Vibration

Possible Causes: Unbalanced rotors caused by internal dirt build-up, damaged bearings, or misaligned coupling.

Solutions: Clean rotors, replace worn bearings, and perform laser shaft alignment.

Problem 4: Reduced Air Delivery Volume

Possible Causes: Belt slippage, open relief valve, or excessive rotor-to-casing clearances due to abrasive wear.

Solutions: Tighten belts, adjust relief valve setting, or re-machine blower housing.
